A traditional Sunday in Vienna. Means either grabbing the kids, the dog, the friends, the family and the next door neighbor and leave the city to spend time outside in the beautiful nature that surrounds Vienna – the hills, the fields and the woods – or it means staying together in the city.
But in every case it means having a typical Austrian cake like Topfenstrudel, Apfelstrudel, Sachertorte or Gugelhupf with a cup of coffee in the afternoon. Sometimes also having only a cup of coffee, as for many people in Vienna, coffee like a Wiener Melange is food.
So if you ask for food & traditions in Vienna, this is definitely one of the „oldest“ traditions. 🙂
In my case it was Topfenstrudel with a Wiener Melange from “Julius Meinl”, which is a very old Vienna “institution” (Julius Meinl AG). Something that is even better when you eat it during a break because of rain on a 27,5 km mountain bike training tour through the Wienerwald. 😉
This is my contribution for PABUCA`s theme of the week.
PS: If I had more time I would have taken pictures of the typical Vienna „Kaffeehaustradition“. But since my Wildsau competition takes every minute of my spare time for training, I have to cope with this. I hope you like it anyway. 🙂
